After several restrictions in Italy were relaxed on Monday, the discussion about other unpopular measures such as the nightly curfew from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. escalated. After lengthy negotiations, the coalition parties voted in parliament for a motion that obliges the government to examine in May whether the curfew can be lifted due to the number of infections.
The front of the parties that regard the exit ban as no longer necessary is growing. While the right-wing ruling party Lega has already collected over 100,000 signatures for a petition to abolish the unpopular exit ban, Italia Viva, the small party around ex-Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, is now supporting the cause of the Lega and the post-fascist Fratelli d’Italia.
“If you decide to reopen gastronomy and culture, you have to postpone the start of the exit ban to at least 11 p.m. There is no scientific evidence that the curfew is really useful in fighting the pandemic, ”argued Renzi. The country must find its way back to its freedom.
Forza Italia questions the requirement to wear a mask outdoors
The requirement to wear a mask outdoors is also being questioned. The senator of the ruling party Forza Italia, Laura Stabile, called for their abolition. There is no risk of infection in the open if you do not approach other people, said Stabile.
The small state of San Marino has also loosened the restrictions in the meantime. The nocturnal exit ban was abolished earlier this week. Restaurants and bars are again allowed to stay open until 9:30 p.m. San Marino is now thinking of plans to safely reopen the discos, reported Italian media.
The small state not far from Rimini has immunized its residents with „Sputnik V“ and Biontech and Pfizer. This week San Marino started vaccinating people under 40 as well as students. However, only 40 percent of residents under 40 have registered for it so far.
