An Italian woman who was the first patient in Italy to have the new coronavirus mutation is symptom-free. She is in home quarantine with her partner in her apartment in Rome. The British partner was also positive and symptom-free, as the Italian health authorities announced.
Despite mutations, the effect of the anti-CoV vaccine is not at risk, said Franco Locatelli, head of the Supreme Health Council (CTS). In the country with around 60 million inhabitants, as in other European countries, a large-scale vaccination campaign will begin on December 27th.
„We are facing the largest vaccination campaign in world history,“ said Locatelli. It starts with the health workers. Locatelli affirmed that anyone who did not get vaccinated could not work in the healthcare sector.
According to Locatelli, there is no evidence that the virus mutation is responsible for the high number of people who have died with or from the coronavirus in Italy in the past few weeks. Over 67,000 people have died of the coronavirus in Italy since the pandemic began in February.
