The German Green MP Stephan Kühn has filed a lawsuit against the German Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) to force him to publish the controversial car tolls. The transport policy spokesman for his group told the „Rheinische Post“ (Monday edition), Scheuer refused for six months, the contracts with the companies Kapsch and Eventim to disclose.
He will no longer offer that. „I’ve filed a lawsuit for this stalling tactic to end,“ said Kühn. Scheuer had announced full transparency to the Bundestag. „But it continues to fortify and keep all relevant documents under wraps,“ said the green politician. „So far, he does not explain in any way, but merely simulates transparency.“
ECJ overturned toll plans according to Austria’s lawsuit
In mid-June, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) overturned the German plans for a car toll following a complaint from Austria. The judges explained that the levy violated EU law because foreign motorists were discriminated against.
As a result, Scheuer announced the contracts concluded in 2018 with the Austrian Kapsch TrafficCom and the German CTS Eventim. Since the contracts were already closed before the ECJ ruling, Scheuer has since faced criticism – also because the federal government may threaten to pay damages to companies.
