The Israeli forces opened fire on the man south of the city of Nablus, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said.
Previously, the Israeli army had already reported that it had „neutralized“ an assailant armed with a knife in the area. It was not specified whether the man referred to in the communication as a „terrorist“ was injured or killed. The attacker had launched a knife at a soldier at a checkpoint, the army explained. Another soldier then opened the fire.
In the West Bank, violence escalated in December after three Israelis were killed in two attacks. It was followed by raids by the Israeli security forces and violent clashes. Israeli soldiers shot a Palestinian protester during protests. But the situation calmed down recently.
