In Israel, the Supreme Court has stopped the subsequent legalization of Palestinian land settlements. The court yesterday invalidated a law designed to expropriate hundreds of hectares of land in the occupied West Bank. The Palestinians on whose land the settlements were built should only receive financial compensation.
The Israeli parliament passed the law in 2017. Israeli and Palestinian human rights organizations had sued.
Zipi Hotoveli, the minister in charge of the settlements, accused the Supreme Court of „declaring war on the right of Jews to settle the land of Israel“. The „best answer“ to the court decision was the planned annexation of parts of the West Bank and a continuation of the settlement building.
