On the eve of future US President Joe Biden’s inauguration, Israel published tenders for the construction of 2,500 new homes in Jewish settlements in occupied territories. As the non-governmental organization Peace Now announced today, 2,112 housing units are to be built in the West Bank and 460 in East Jerusalem.

Peace Now accused the Israeli government of seeking „as much settlement activity as possible“ before the change of government in Washington. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is signaling to the future president that he is not seriously considering a solution to the conflict with the Palestinians, the organization criticized.

On Sunday, Israel approved the construction of 780 apartments in settlements in the occupied West Bank, which led to criticism from the UN, among others. Internationally, too, the Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967 are considered illegal.
After attack from Gaza Strip: Israel attacks Hamas targets

After a rocket attack from the Gaza Strip, Israel’s army again attacked targets in the Palestinian Territory on the Mediterranean during the night. The army announced that tanks had fired at military posts belonging to the ruling Islamist Hamas.

A bullet had previously been fired into Israeli territory from the coastal strip. It was the second such incident that week. There were no reports of injuries or property damage.
