Israel’s government has today given the green light for the export of medical cannabis. The ministers voted for the resolution at a Cabinet meeting in Jerusalem. Parliament had already approved a law in December. This small Mediterranean country is considered to be a world leader in the research and cultivation of medicinal cannabis and the manufacture of cannabis products.

The export should begin at the earliest in half a year. Israel’s Ministry of Finance expects the export license to „open a new market for Israeli manufacturers.“ This will also increase investment in agriculture, research and production and create new jobs.

According to media reports, Israel hopes that the export of legal cannabis products will generate additional tax revenue of one billion shekels (equivalent to 239 million euros). Cannabis is already used in Israel for the treatment of a wide range of diseases, such as epilepsy, Parkinson’s and Crohn’s disease. Its active ingredients can have a pain-relieving effect.
