The worst terrorist attack in Baghdad in around three years appears to have been caused by the terrorist militia Islamic State (IS). IS confessed to yesterday’s double attack through the Telegram news channel, in which two suicide bombers killed at least 32 people.
They blew themselves up a few minutes apart in a busy square in the center of the Iraqi capital. More than 110 people were injured.
The security situation in Baghdad had improved significantly in recent years. Iraq is still suffering from the consequences of the fight against the Sunni ISIS militia, which ruled large areas in the north and west of the country between 2014 and 2017. Terrorist attacks repeatedly shook the country.
