In the Iraqi capital Baghdad, new protests against the government have killed at least 15 people during the night. According to police and medical sources, the number of deaths has risen to at least 110 since the protests began one week ago. According to the government, more than 6,000 people were injured.

During the night, there were once again serious clashes between security forces and demonstrators in the east of the capital. The military said in the morning that it was again withdrawn from the district Sadr city and hand over the control to the police to deescalate the situation. Prime Minister Adel Abdel Mahdi said the situation has calmed down.

The partly violent protests had begun on Tuesday last week. People demonstrate against high unemployment, mismanagement and rampant corruption. The government has promised reforms. A 17-point plan promises, among other things, support for the unemployed and survivors of killed protesters.
