In the fight against tax fraud in Internet commerce, the Federal Council has tightened the rules for online platforms such as Amazon and eBay. According to the law passed yesterday in the Bundestag, in the future the platform operators will be liable for sellers who pay no sales tax. However, the Federal Council still has to agree to the new regulation.
Tax fraud in online trading means that hundreds of millions of euros are lost annually to Germany. Above all, traders from the Far East often handle sales tax. So far, the tax liability of traders who use the platforms to sell their goods. Due to a lack of addresses, the tax office often has no access if the sellers do not pay the taxes due.
