According to a report, more than twenty heads of state and government from Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America have proposed drafting a new international treaty to prevent and combat future pandemics. According to the dpa, in a call published by the „Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung“, the lessons should be learned from the mistakes in dealing with Covid-19.

The signatories include Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron, EU Council President Charles Michel, Chile’s President Sebastian Pinera, South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa, South Korea’s President Moon Jae In and Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo.

„Covid-19 has exposed our weaknesses and our disagreement. Now we have to seize the chance and, as a global community, work together in peaceful cooperation beyond this crisis, ”the dpa quotes from the letter. The declared aim of the envisaged contract is, among other things, more cooperation in the health system, warning systems in the event of dangers and a better distribution of drugs, protective equipment and vaccines.
