The Boeing 777, with 326 passengers and 21 crew members on board, was on its way from Istanbul to New York when the plane hit turbulence about 45 minutes before landing in New York over the Atlantic. The machine finally landed safely at John F. Kennedy Airport, and the injured were taken to hospitals.
Shortly before, a plane belonging to the Canadian company Air Transat had landed at Newark airport near New York, after smoke had been discovered in the hold. The machine with 189 passengers on board was traveling from Montreal to Fort Lauderdale in Florida. No one was injured in the incident.
