Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has urged citizens to be more disciplined as coronavirus infections increase in Israel. At the start of a cabinet meeting in Jerusalem, Netanyahu said today, „There has been an increase in disease in the past few days, accompanied by a softening of discipline.“

Schools are emerging as new sources of infection in Israel. According to the Ministry of Education, 17 kindergartens and schools have already been closed due to new coronavirus diseases. Most new cases occurred at a high school in Jerusalem, where more than 100 teachers and students fell ill. According to media reports, a single „superspreader“ infected the others there.

„Will consider steps“

„There is no doubt that there is an increase compared to what we have seen in the past few weeks,“ said Netanyahu. „The coronavirus pandemic is not yet over.“ It is now necessary to determine whether there is a real change in trend. „We will weigh our steps in the next few days and if necessary we will change the policy accordingly.“

Netanyahu appealed to the Israelis to continue wearing masks, maintain a minimum distance of two meters, and to comply with hygiene rules. At weekends, parties in bars and clubs were often seen on social media, where many people celebrated crowded and without face protection. Many Israelis without a mask are now also on the streets and in public facilities.
