The Indian authorities registered almost 315,000 coronavirus infections within 24 hours. As the Ministry of Health announced today, 314,835 new infections were registered within one day.
The total number of infections rose to 15.9 million. No other country in the world has reported so many new infections within one day. After the USA (around 328 million inhabitants), India is the second most severely affected country in the world by the pandemic.
The number of deaths within 24 hours was given as 2,074. Almost 185,000 people have died in India after being infected with the coronavirus. Religious gatherings, political and sporting events as well as a lack of medication and oxygen to ventilate patients have exacerbated the situation in the country with its 1.3 billion inhabitants in recent weeks.
