According to the Ministry of Interior, the tourists concerned are said to be Vietnamese. The injured Egyptians are the bus driver and an employee of the travel company.
The scene of the incident was closed by the security forces. The investigation initially lasted well into the evening.
Local media posted on Twitter photos showing the bus. Several discs of the bus shown are fragmented, the windscreen has long cracks. The site is littered with scratches and dark traces of dust.
In the holiday country Egypt, there are always attacks on tourists and terrorist attacks. The travel industry in the country suffers a lot. The tourist numbers had fallen sharply after the upheavals of the so-called Arab Spring in 2011, but recently recovered slightly. Nevertheless, the Foreign Office warns of an increased risk of terrorist attacks.
Especially on the Sinai Peninsula there are always incidents. But also in the capital Cairo or in other parts of the country, attacks happen again and again. Recently, seven people died in an attack on Coptic pilgrims in early November.
