After the mass protests in Hong Kong, Prime Minister Carrie Lam has apologized to the people for the controversy over the Law on Deliveries to China. „I have a lot of responsibility to bear,“ the 62-year-old told the press today, expressing her „sincere apology.“

It was her first public appearance since Lam put the law on hold on Saturday and more than a million people were trapped on Sunday. However, she did not pull the law back completely as requested by her opponents. It would allow the Hong Kong authorities to extradite suspects from China, although the Chinese judiciary is not independent and also serves political persecution.

Also, critics warned against torture and ill treatment. On Sunday, the head of government had already apologized in a statement, now she postponed the personal apology.
