According to a report by Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR), hackers have captured documents on nuclear plants, prisons and tram networks from a French construction company. The company Ingerop have confirmed the attack on request, reported the NDR yesterday.
The company is headquartered near Paris and involved in major construction projects worldwide. At first it did not respond to demand. The record copied by the hackers, which is available to the NDR and evaluated by NDR reporters together with the „Süddeutsche Zeitung“ and „Le Monde“, covers more than 65 gigabytes.
These included plans to locate video cameras to be used in a French high-security prison, documents relating to a planned nuclear waste repository in northeastern France, and personal information to more than 1,200 Ingerop employees. Some in-house emails are also part of the data leak. In all, there were more than 11,000 files, according to NDR data from a dozen projects in which the company works. Among them were mainly construction projects in France, but also projects in Spain and South America, reported the NDR, citing a spokeswoman for Ingerop. The company claims to have informed the affected customers about the data theft and set up unspecified security measures.
