Venezuela’s self-proclaimed interim President Juan Guaido mobilizes the population for a march to the Miraflores Presidential Palace in Caracas. „We go to Miraflores and demand back what the people belong to,“ Guaido said yesterday in front of thousands of supporters in the city of Valencia in the state of Carabobo. At first he did not name a date for the march.
„Today begins a new stage of the organization,“ said the 35-year-old. He will visit as many states as possible. Supporters of Guaido held rallies in other South American cities as well.
For the „Operation Libertad“ Guaido called on the short message service Twitter, the population to organize themselves into committees. Also within the armed forces one should prepare oneself, it was called in a list with individual points, which Guaido published. The opposition leader wants to bring movement in the stalled for weeks power struggle with head of state Nicolas Maduro.
Guaido declared himself interim president of the country with the world’s largest oil reserves on January 23. He denounced President Maduro’s legitimacy because his re-election last year did not meet democratic standards. Many opponents of the government were not allowed to run at that time, the largest opposition alliance boycotted the election because of unfair conditions.
