The top officials of the European football association UEFA want to deal with the revelations about FIFA President Gianni Infantino. As DFB President Reinhard Grindel announced, the allegations against the most powerful man in world football within UEFA will be discussed. The Football Leaks documents available to the „Spiegel“, which he shared with the NDR and the EIC research network, show that Infantino has overruled many rules.
The European football top officials to DFB boss Reinhard Grindel want to address the new allegations against Gianni Infantino. „We will analyze the situation within UEFA and then decide together on how to proceed,“ said Grindel on Sunday. He spoke with UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin over the allegations this weekend. „It is good practice for UEFA members to vote and work together in the FIFA Council,“ said Grindel, who is one of nine UEFA representatives in the World Government’s governing body. „This unity has helped prevent FIFA President Gianni Infantino alone in Club World Cup matters.“
FIFA rejects allegations
Football Leaks documents show that Infantino, as UEFA General Secretary, made arrangements with clubs in 2014 for investigating Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City for violating financial fair play. These came afterwards with comparatively small fines off. He also made proposals for the revised guidelines of the independent FIFA Ethics Committee. The World Association dismissed the allegations and stated that none of the media reports contained anything „that amounts to a violation of laws, statutes or regulations.“
