Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is traveling to Turkey today to try to reduce tensions between the two countries. Tsipras wants to meet President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his visit to the capital Ankara.

According to his spokesman, the talks will focus on economic and energy cooperation, tensions in the Aegean, the Cyprus conflict and the migration issue.

Although the historically difficult relationship has improved, many conflict points remain. In the Aegean there are incidents of naval ships around a controversial archipelago, and even in the Cyprus conflict, the two countries are crossing. Erdogan was last in December 2017 in Greece. Tsipras said in advance of his trip that he hoped to continue the „difficult but open dialogue“ that had begun at that time.
