According to plans of the German Ministry of Labor, workers should soon receive better legal rules for temporary work from home. A law with the right to Home Office should be decided later this year, said State Secretary Bjoern Böhning today the editorial network Germany. „We will find unbureaucratic solutions.“

Everyone who could at least occasionally work just as well from home should be given better opportunities to do so. The proposed legal framework also includes employers and employees talking about models of timekeeping. Böhning said that there will be a clear regulation that limits the right to mobile work to those cases „in which home office is really possible outside the workplace with regard to the use of work equipment“.

According to a DIW study, 40 percent of employees in Germany could work from home. „Only twelve percent do that. So we are still a long way from what is actually possible,“ said Böhning.
