Trump will host the G-7 summit in 2020, allowing him to choose the location. His chief of staff Mick Mulvaney had announced at the White House on Thursday that the US wanted to host the summit of the seven major industrialized countries (G-7) from 10 to 12 June 2020 at a Trumps hotel – the Trump National Doral in Miami. This is by far the best facility for the meeting and cheaper than other places, Mulvaney explained. Trump will not benefit financially, he stressed.
On much criticism, concerns long rejected
Nevertheless, the decision met with much criticism. Trump has repeatedly been reprimanded in the US for using his own properties for official purposes, thereby benefiting financially from his presidency.
Trump had praised the Doral Hotel at the recent G-7 summit in Biarritz, France, in late August and praised it as a possible venue for the next summit. He said at the time that the Trump National Doral was just a few minutes from the Miami airport, that every delegation could have its own 50 to 70-room building. „It’s a great place. The terrain is huge, many hundreds of acres. We can do everything we need there. „At the time, Trump dismissed concerns that he might inadvertently benefit from hosting the prestigious summit meeting at his hotel.
