The European Minister of Europe, Nathalie Loiseau, caused a stir in the UK with a joke about her cat Brexit. Shortly before the EU summit on Brexit tomorrow and Friday, the 54-year-old confessed now but she has no cat.
Loiseau had written according to the French newspaper „Journal du Dimanche“ on her private Facebook page, she has christened her cat Brexit. „She wakes me up with hellish meow because she wants out,“ she wrote, „but as soon as I open the door, she remains indecisive and gives me a bleak look as I put her out“ – an allusion to London’s undecided attitude at the EU exit.
„Fake mews“ makes for amusement in British
In online networks, the story of the „Brexit cat“ was raging. The British news portal Independent accused the European Minister of a „provocative attitude“ in the Brexit question.
On the internet, many Britons took the news with gallows humor and spoke of „fake mews“. A Twitter user joked that the next domestic cat of British Prime Minister Theresa May in Downing Street 10 will certainly be called Brexit. Loiseau wants to lead the party of President Emmanuel Macron, La Republique en Marche (LREM), into the European elections in late May.
