France wants to ban the destruction of unsalable clothing or other consumer goods: this is provided for in a legislative package, which Secretary of State for the Environment Brune Poirson presented today in the Cabinet. According to the government, every year more than 650 million euros worth of new goods are thrown away or destroyed in France. Whether they should be recycled in the future or donated, the draft does not regulate.

Prime Minister Edouard Philippe had announced the law against waste in June. According to his information is about textiles, electrical goods, hygiene products or other goods.

The draft also foresees the possible reintroduction of a deposit on cans and plastic bottles. The details should be clarified. For large supermarkets, France already has rules against waste: For a good three years, they have been forbidden to destroy even consumable food. Instead, the goods must be donated to aid organizations.
