A devastating fire in a nursery in Pennsylvania has killed five children.
The building where the children slept burned down completely yesterday, according to the fire department. Although rescue workers could salvage all seven people from the burning house, the children died later of their injuries.
According to media reports, four of them were siblings between the ages of ten months and seven years. The fire department spoke of a „terrible tragedy“, which was probably caused by an electrical defect. According to the „Erie News Now“, in the three-storey private house in the town of Erie, the children were cared for by a childminder who also looks after the offspring of working parents at night.
Dense clouds of smoke
The local news site portrayed her last year as a dedicated education worker who has looked after children for nearly 20 years – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. After the fire, it was said in other reports, the woman was also seriously injured hospitalized.
„Erie News Now“ reported that a neighbor rushing to help had to turn back because of the dense smoke. Rescue workers had still tried to revive the children – but could not help them anymore.
