In China, for the third day in a row, there have been no new coronavirus infections that have been transmitted domestically. However, the National Health Commission announced 41 new cases today that are exclusively travelers who have recently returned from abroad. So far, China has counted 269 such coronavirus infections.
Another seven people died in the central Chinese province of Hubei, from where the Sars-CoV-2 virus began to spread worldwide in late 2019. According to the Health Commission, 3,255 people died of Covid-19 lung disease throughout the People’s Republic. China, the country of origin, remains the most affected country with more than 81,000 infected.
Measures against the second wave
Beijing has launched measures to prevent a second wave of infections. Among other things, the government imposed a quarantine on anyone wishing to enter the capital from abroad. Some flights to Beijing were diverted.
Fear of a second wave of infection also increased in Taiwan. After the island nation initially managed to act quickly to stop the virus from spreading, the country reported a further increase in imported Covid-19 cases today.
Returnees to Taiwan
The 18 patients are Taiwanese citizens who have returned from Turkey, the United States, Great Britain, France, the Czech Republic, Egypt, South Africa, Indonesia and other countries, said Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The sufferers are of different ages, from people in the 20s to 70s. In addition, according to the CECC, around 3,300 citizens are in domestic quarantine after their return from abroad in March. To date, Taiwan has had 153 coronavirus cases, including two deaths.
