Demonstrators and protesters from the environmental movement „Extinction Rebellion“ have continued their blockade in central Paris. As the news channel BFMTV reported today, several hundred activists continued occupying a central square near the Seine and a bridge. In Berlin, the police have meanwhile resumed the clearing of a street blockade on the central Potsdamer Platz.“Extinction Rebellion“ (originally: Rebellion against extinction) originally comes from the UK. Among other things, the group demands that national governments immediately declare the climate emergency. Supporters of the environmental movement also protested in Vienna, Amsterdam and London. There were also blockades in Sydney, Australia and Wellington, New Zealand. More than 130 arrests were made in London.

Blockade cleared in Germany

According to „Extinction Rebellion“ several hundred demonstrators occupied the night on the Potsdamer Platz and the large roundabout at the Victory Column in the Tiergarten. At the Potsdamer Platz, according to the activists, the blockade now consisted only of people chained to a truck and a coach.

Firefighters were busy solving these devices. In the meantime, around 300 protesters who had spent the night in sleeping bags and tents on Potsdamer Platz had left the lane, reported the Alliance. According to the police, the forces had withdrawn from Potsdamer Platz during the night and had the demonstrators granted. The clearing operation was continued this morning.
