After political upheaval and repression, countless Hong Kong residents have fled the former British crown colony. In Great Britain immigration is made easier for them – if they have the necessary money. Many of the young democracy activists are now facing new hardships due to a lack of money.

Dozens of activists accused of „subversion“

Dozens of members of the democracy movement in Hong Kong were accused of „subversion“ today. 47 people were accused of „conspiracy to overthrow“, the police said. It was the largest police action to date on the basis of the controversial “Security Act”. The League of Social Democrats announced that the accused included the well-known democracy activists Leung Kwok-hung and Jimmy Sham.
