The body of the dead journalist Jamal Khashoggi has been dismembered and then dissolved in acid, according to an adviser to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. „They got rid of the corpse by breaking it up,“ Yasin Aktay told Hürriyet newspaper today. His statement coincides with a Washington Post report for which Khashoggi had written.

According to recent information, „they have dismembered the corpse to make it easier to disperse,“ said Aktay. „They wanted to make sure nothing was left of the body.“ The Washington Post quoted a Turkish source as saying that „biological evidence“ had been found in the garden of the Saudi Arabian Consulate in Istanbul.
Strangled shortly after entering consulate

After weeks of denials, Saudi Arabia had acknowledged the critical journalist’s death on 20 October under international pressure, but initially presented it as the result of an escalated dispute. Only later did Prosecutor General Abdullah al-Muadschab admit that Khashoggi had been „deliberately“ killed. 18 suspects had been arrested and a royal media consultant and the vice secret service chief had been removed from their posts.

On Wednesday, the Turkish judiciary had confirmed for the first time that Khashoggi strangled shortly after entering the consulate and his body was then dismembered.

Khashoggi had gone to his country’s Istanbul Consulate on October 2 to pick up a document for his marriage, but did not come out again. It is suspected that the Saudi Arabian crown prince Mohammed bin Salman had the prominent journalist murdered. The Riyadh leadership denies any involvement of the 33-year-old Heir to the throne, but the case has seriously damaged his reputation.
