Three months after the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused the US of inaction. He could not understand the „silence“ of America in the face of this „atrocity,“ Erdogan said in an interview with state broadcaster TRT last night. Erdogan again demanded a full investigation of the case.

A Saudi killing squad had murdered the government-critical journalist Khashoggi in early October in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. The exiled Washington Post columnist wanted to pick up documents for his wedding. The government in Riyadh admitted the killing only after heavy international pressure.

UNO rapporteur Agnes Callamard spent a week in Turkey gathering information about the Khashoggi’s circumstances. A series of indications brought the Saudi heir to the throne Mohammed bin Salman close to the deed. According to media reports, the US secret service CIA also assumes that the crown prince is the mastermind behind the killing. The Saudi government denies this vehemently.
