US rock star Elvis Presley, baseball legend Babe Ruth and chief judge Antonin Scalia are posthumously awarded the US President’s Freedom Medal. As the White House announced yesterday, four other personalities receive the highest US civilian award. Among them are the long-time Republican Senator Orrin Hatch as well as the philanthropist and sponsor of the Republican Party, Miriam Adelson.
Sponsors of the medal are said to have made a particularly deserving contribution to the security and national interests of the United States or to world peace, or to have rendered outstanding service in culture and other endeavors.
