The Brexit could now be postponed for eight weeks according to today’s media report. According to the Daily Mail, the British government is considering such an extension because of the pending amendments to the EU law. This is true even if Prime Minister Theresa May gets her deal through parliament.

As reported by the British tabloid to it, the so far scheduled for March 29, Britain’s exit from the EU could take place only on 24 May. The time falls exactly in the time of the EU elections, which begin on Thursday, May 23, and last until Sunday, May 26.

The speculation about a Brexit delay was recently fueled by several cabinet members. May itself strictly precluded this. The head of the British government will travel to Brussels tomorrow to try to renegotiate the withdrawal agreement, mainly because of the backstop issue on the Irish-Northern Irish border. However, the EU has hitherto excluded a tightening of the treaty, which did not find a majority in the British House of Commons.
