One day after a million-dollar theft in France, the fugitive driver of a money-carrier has been arrested. Adrien D. was arrested yesterday in the northern French city of Amiens, as the public prosecutor of the Paris suburb Bobigny announced. With him, the investigators found a large part of the loot, which could be up to three million euros.
The 27-year-old driver of a cash-in-transit truck had dropped off two colleagues in Aubervilliers, north of Paris, at a money-transfer agency on Monday morning – and then left with the vehicle. The empty money transporter Loomis was found a little later with open doors a few streets away. From the driver, dozens of money sacks and a pump gun initially lacked any trace.
The investigation was handed over to a unit for fighting gang violence. This launched yesterday in the wake of the search a witness call. D. was then caught in an apartment in Amiens in the afternoon. According to police, he tried in vain to escape by jumping out of the window. Also arrested was a woman who is considered an accomplice.
