In Mozambique, more than 60 refugees have been found dead in a truck container today. The apparently Ethiopian people are believed to have suffocated, said a hospital representative from the AFP news agency. A total of 64 bodies were found, only 14 people survived escaping in the truck.
The truck had left Malawi, said the hospital representative. However, it can be assumed that the people are Ethiopians. When checked at a bridge in the province of Tete in northwestern Mozambique, security forces then found the people in the truck’s container. Recordings published on Miramar showed lifeless bodies piled up on a tractor.
Mozambique is one of the most important transit countries for refugees and migrants from Ethiopia and other African countries on the way to South Africa. Many of the people hope to work in the metropolis of Johannesburg.
