In the Philippines at least 34 people have been killed by the severe cyclone „Yutu“. Today, after days of searching, the authorities gave up hope of finding 17 missing women and men alive.
It is feared that the number of victims is still rising. Several people are still suspected to be under the rubble of houses, which collapsed by the storm or were carried away by earth and water masses.
The typhoon hit the Southeast Asian island nation on Tuesday with wind speeds in excess of 140 km / h. The worst gusts had a speed of 230 km / h. Particularly affected were the provinces of Mountain, Banaue, Ifugao and Kalinga. In September, another typhoon in the Philippines killed more than 100 people.
