US President Donald Trump has „confidence“ in ruler Kim Jong Un, despite North Korea’s recent weapons tests. North Korea fired „some small weapons,“ but that did not bother him, Trump wrote today on Twitter, apparently referring to the missile tests in early May. „I have confidence that Chairman Kim will keep his promise to me.“
The two politicians had exchanged two summit meetings in Singapore and Hanoi, the second meeting in Hanoi had no results. North Korea ties Kims‘ basic commitment to nuclear disarmament to conditions, including a loosening of sanctions.
He must have smiled when Kim Jong Un credited his potential adversary with „low IQ“ in next year’s presidential election, Democrat and former Vice President Joe Biden, Trump continued. „Maybe that sends a signal to me?“ Trump asked.
Biden had responded in recent days to the leaders of North Korea and stated that it was no wonder that North Korea preferred Trump as US president. This has a penchant for dictators and bail for old allies.
Golfing in Japan
Trump is currently on a state visit to Japan. North Korea is one of the most important topics in the talks between him and the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The US President and his wife arrived in Japan yesterday.
Their meeting today started with a round of golf in Tokyo for Abe and Trump, and later a visit to a sumo tournament is on the program. Tomorrow Trump will be welcomed by the new Japanese Emperor Naruhito.
