Because of summer temperatures over the weekend, numerous people in Rome, Naples, Bari and Genoa streamed outside – despite the night curfew and partial lockdowns in some regions. In Naples there were crowds of people along the sea.
In Lombardy, many people who own holiday apartments in the Alpine region of Valtellina have reached the mountainous villages in order not to have to spend the time of the partial lockdown in the city. According to the local authorities, many otherwise closed holiday apartments in renowned holiday resorts such as Bormio, Aprica, Valmalenco and Madesimo are currently inhabited like in summer or at Christmas time.
The mayor of the southern Italian Adriatic port city of Bari, Antonio Decaro, posted pictures of fellow citizens walking en masse on the streets along the coast. „These pictures are a slap in the face for those suffering from Covid and the entrepreneurs who have to close their businesses because of the epidemic,“ protested the mayor. If the number of infections in the area increases, the Apulia region, to which Bari belongs, would also have to be declared a red zone. That would force citizens into a partial lockdown, warned Decaro.
Protests against the government’s restrictive measures are now increasing. In Naples, restaurant owners demonstrated against the obligation to close their premises at 6 p.m. There was a protest in Rome because of the nationwide ban on Advent markets. This means a huge loss for the retail trade, emphasized the demonstrators.
