The comprehensive climate protection program of the German government should be adopted by a federal spokesman next week, according to a government spokesman. As planned, the supplementary budget for the climate policy cornerstones of the government was approved today.

„The comprehensive climate change program prepared on the basis of the agreed key points will be approved in the Cabinet next week,“ added the government spokesman. According to the participants, the cabinet unanimously agreed to the decision next week.

German budget according to Scholz „solidly financed“

According to Finance Minister Olaf Scholz, the German budget also remains „soundly financed“ with the expenses for the government’s climate package. This assured Scholz today in the ARD „Morgenmagazin“. He also defended the much-criticized plans of the Union and SPD for low entry into the CO2 pricing.

The Scholz bill envisages climate protection spending of € 54.4 billion over the period from 2020 to 2023. They are to be financed in part by the revenue from the new CO2 pricing in the transport and building sector. The Minister of Finance estimates this to 18.8 billion euros by 2023.

The approximately 200-page climate program is the long version of the 22-page climate package and should contain numerous other details and figures, such as the CO2 savings of individual projects. For days, the ministries negotiated about it, but could not find an agreement at night. In SPD circles, especially the CSU-led Ministry of Transport was blamed.
