According to media reports, the Italian government has decided to extend the curfew due to the coronavirus pandemic by three weeks until May 3. As Italian media reported today, citing union details, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced the decision on Thursday afternoon at a video conference with employee and employer representatives. An official announcement and a decree should follow today or tomorrow.

„Italy will remain closed until May 3rd,“ headlined the newspaper Corriere della Sera. On May 4th, the Italians should „tick red in the calendar“. From this day on, if all goes well, the curfew will be relaxed for millions of people. Old people and other risk groups would have to be prepared for restrictions even longer.

Exceptions for closings

According to the reports, there should also be a few exceptions to the closure of all non-vital businesses: Among other things, book and stationery shops should be allowed to open accordingly. Only grocery stores and pharmacies have been open in Italy since March 12. The current restrictions all apply until April 12th.

At the very end, according to the newspaper “La Repubblica”, bars, restaurants, schools, dentists and gyms should be allowed to reopen. However, a date for this has not yet been determined.
