In its written judgment in the NSU trial, the Munich Higher Regional Court supported the conviction of right-wing terrorist Beate Zschäpe for ten times the murder. Zschäpe’s contribution to the crime was “objectively essential”, it says in the reasoning that is available to the dpa.
The exact reasoning is of great interest because the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe has to review the NSU judgment.
Zschäpe was sentenced to life imprisonment at the end of the more than five-year trial on the murders and attacks of the National Socialist Underground (NSU) on July 11, 2018 – even if there is no evidence that she herself was at one of the crime scenes. However, she lived underground with her friends Uwe Mundlos and Uwe Böhnhardt for almost 14 years – during this time the men murdered nine traders of Turkish and Greek origin, as well as a police officer.
