The search for the containers of the freighter „MSC Zoe“, which was damaged in the North Sea, is interrupted today due to a storm. This was announced by the German Emergency Command in Cuxhaven. It can be expected at night with wind strengths of up to eleven Beaufort and poor visibility. Several authorities ships search in the German-Dutch border area for the 270 or so lost containers.
According to the Havariekommandos, around 260 containers have been discovered so far, the vast majority in the Netherlands. 220 were located there on the seabed, 20 other containers washed ashore on the coast. About 20 transport containers were spotted on German territory. Many of them sank and lie 22 kilometers north of the island Borkum on the ground, as the operations center further announced.
The almost 400-meter-long „MSC Zoe“ had lost just over a week ago in a storm numerous containers, including two with dangerous goods. Government ships as well as planes and helicopters search for the containers. A special company commissioned by the shipping company is to rescue her. Part of the cargo was washed ashore on islands.
