In the east of the Congo are now 500 people suffering from the life-threatening Ebola virus. Of these, 452 cases have been confirmed, 48 is the disease is likely, the Congolese Ministry of Health announced late Tuesday evening.
So far, a total of 289 people have died. Curbing haemorrhagic fever is particularly difficult in the province of North Kivu, where several armed groups are active in the resource-rich area.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), this is now the second most serious Ebola outbreak in history. More than 11,000 people lost their lives in 2014/2015, the most serious Ebola epidemic in West Africa to date.
