Three days after the military coup in Sudan, thousands of protesters continued their sit-in in front of the armed forces headquarters in the capital, Khartoum. With songs and posters they demanded to initiate the transition to a civilian government, as eyewitnesses reported today.

The opposition and organizers of the protests, including the SPA, want to continue demonstrating until all their demands are met. The military leadership was soon to hold talks with the leaders of the opposition.

Events are going over

Since Thursday, the events in the country in the northeast of Africa are turning over. As a result of continuing mass protests, the military suspended Omar al-Bashir, who had ruled for 30 years. The former Defense Minister Awad ibn Awf rose to become the military ruler.

However, the demonstrators turned against Bashir’s longtime companion. On Friday he was therefore replaced by the former Inspector General, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan. He said yesterday that the night curfew imposed by his predecessor was suspended.
