In the dispute over US spy charges against Chinese telecom equipment giant Huawei, China has summoned representatives of Western technology companies to admonish them, according to a Reuters report. With reference to security concerns, the US government had previously asked US companies to stop supplying Huawei with goods and services.
While the Chinese authorities did not raise any direct warning during the conversation, it made it clear that joining the Huawei ban would lead to further complications for everyone in the industry, according to Reuters, a Microsoft insider said. Microsoft has been asked „in a firm tone“ not to take hasty or ill-considered steps.
After the US ban against Huawei, China had announced that it would soon publish a list of „unreliable“ companies. Beijing also suggested restricting US supply of rare earths, a group of raw materials needed for many high-technology applications, and almost exclusively obtained in China.
