Tensions between China and the USA have intensified again after a reconnaissance flight by a US aircraft over Chinese military exercises. The People’s Republic accuses the United States of yesterday sending a US Lockheed U-2 reconnaissance aircraft into a no-fly zone where a military fire drill was being held.
„Act of naked provocation“
„It was an act of naked provocation, China is firmly against it and has already filed a complaint with the US side,“ said the Chinese Defense Ministry. The flight could easily have led to misunderstandings or misjudgments or to an „unexpected incident“, added the ministry.
The US military said about the incident that a U-2 flight had been carried out in the Indo-Pacific region and was „within the recognized international rules and regulations for aircraft flights“. „The Pacific Air Forces will continue to fly wherever international law allows,“ it said. The US and China are at odds with each other on several issues.
