A huge canvas painting by street artist Banksy showing the British House of Chimpanzees is due to be auctioned in early October in London. The 2009 work entitled „Devolved Parliament“ could bring in more than 1.5 million pounds (about 1.7 million euros), said the auction house Sotheby’s.

With a width of 4.5 meters and a height of almost 2.8 meters, the work is considered the largest known canvas painting by Banksy. The sale is scheduled for October 3, about a year after Banksy himself intervened in a Sotheby’s auction in London by shredding his painting Girl with a Balloon; and only a few weeks before the planned Brexit appointment in late October. This time it was ensured that no shredder was installed in the painting, told the auction house Euronews.

Banksy had created the „Monkey Painting“ ten years ago, according to the BBC for the Bristol Museum. The anonymous owner of the work lent it to the museum earlier this year – on the one hand, to pay tribute to the tenth anniversary of the exhibition in the museum, and, on the other hand, to commemorate Britain’s planned withdrawal from the EU on 29 March.
