The French fashion company Chanel wants to dispense in the future on leather of exotic animals and fur. It will only use the skin of animals that come from the food industry as waste products, said the president of the Chanel fashion division, Bruno Pavlovsky, the „Handelsblatt“ in New York in a report published Wednesday. Fur should not give it in May at all in the collections.
The reason for not using leather from animals such as crocodiles, lizards, snakes and stingrays is that it is too difficult to ensure the origin. „More and more customers want to know from us where the materials come from and how the animals are kept. It’s all about traceability, „he said. Only then does the leather meet the ethical standards of the house. For the future sees Pavlovsky also the opportunity to switch to biotech leather. „But that will not happen in the near future,“ he said.
