In the case of the murdered Maltese investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, charges have been brought against two other suspects. Robert A. and Jamie V. are accused of having been involved in the collection of the bomb that killed the reporter in 2017, a judge said at a public hearing yesterday.
The two suspects are known to the police because of their alleged links to organized crime. She has now also been charged with the murder of a lawyer in 2015.
Guilty verdict after admission of guilt
The previous day, the Caruana Galizia murder had been given a first prison sentence. Vincent M. was sentenced to 15 years in prison for obtaining, planting and detonating the bomb. After a long denial, he had finally pleaded guilty, which was taken into account in his sentence.
The 53-year-old Caruana Galizia was killed in a bomb attack on her car in Malta on October 16, 2017. She had reported regularly about corruption, money laundering and other illegal business in her home country.
