It’s not on the market yet – but there are already several reports of technical issues with Samsung’s foldable smartphone. The group announced „thorough investigations“.
It will be the first of a new class of mobile devices: The foldable Galaxy Fold combines the advantages of smartphone and tablet. Now, however, some journalists who received pre-trial copies for testing report flickering displays, bumps, and even total failures. This is all the more conspicuous since test equipment issued to media is usually checked for defects by the manufacturer.
Two journalists also removed a supposed protective film from the screen, which is however an integral part of the display. Samsung announced to place a corresponding warning more clearly.
„We will thoroughly investigate these devices to determine the cause,“ Samsung said. The launch of the Galaxy Fold was scheduled for April 26 in the US and early May in Germany. The price is around 2000 dollars (around 1800 euros).
As early as 2016, Samsung had massive problems with its then top-of-the-range Galaxy Note 7. After several fires, the company first had to recall 2.5 million models and then take the smartphone completely off the market. That cost the South Korean company several billion.
