Budget dispute in the US, the Senate approved bridge finance

In the budget dispute in the US, the Senate approved bridge financing until 8 February. The move will ensure government action by then, said Senate Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday night.

The $ 5 billion demanded by US President Donald Trump for his planned construction of the Wall on the border with Mexico is not included in the financing plan.

Bridge financing must pass the House of Representatives by midnight (local time) on Friday and be presented to Trump for signature. Otherwise, around a quarter of the federal authorities will be shut down.

Trump wants to sign bill

Republicans and Democrats hinted that the bill should be approved by Congress. Advisor to the president said in US media, Trump wants to sign the law.

For Trump, however, the emergency funding that has now been obtained is a defeat: the president had long insisted on financing for the construction of the wall on the border with Mexico.

Last week, the dispute escalated at a presidential meeting with Democratic presidential chairmen in the Senate and House of Representatives. In front of cameras, the opposition leaders denied Trump’s demand for the billions for the wall. The president said in the war of words that he assumes responsibility when it comes to a government deadlock.

His spokeswoman finally stated that there are „other means“ to raise the five billion dollars. (Afp)
